The basic rule of avoiding and treating rashes is to keep the area covered by the diaper clean, dry and cool. The baby’s diaper must be frequently changed, care must be taken to allow the baby go bare-bottomed whenever possible and it must be frequently ventilated. Leaving the baby diaperless for a period of 10-15 minutes during diaper change thus allowing air contact is considerably protective. When putting the diaper on the baby, the diaper must be loosely fit around the waist as far as possible, allowing the air to circulate within the diaper.
Diapers of the correct size suitable for the baby’s weight must be selected. A diaper that is smaller than it is required to be will be too tight for the baby, causing discomfort. If the diaper is too large, it will lead to leaking and irritate the baby’s bottom. When cleaning the diaper area, use a cotton pad dipped in warm water. Wash the area using a warm, soft, wet cloth with nonfoaming disinfecting soap and cleanse from urine and feces with soft moves and lightly dry with a soft towel. If wet wipes are to be used, choose soft and alcohol-free wet wipes suitable for baby skin. Soaps and shampoos must not be used more frequent than three days. Everyday use of them will inhibit the skin from creating a protective layer.
Before putting the new diaper on the baby, make sure that the baby’s bottom has fully dried. Antibiotics and all medicine passing into breast milk affect the baby. In order to avoid the development of rashes on babies, the mother must be fed with natural foods and she must consult a specialist before taking any medicine.
