  • First of all, a mother must pay utmost attention to the cleanness of her hands. Therefore, you must wash your hands frequently.
  • You may clean the crust formed round the eyes of your baby using “cooled” boiled water.
  • Never use cotton swabs while cleaning your baby’s ears. It will be enough to clean just the outside of the ear using a piece of cotton.
  • Trim your baby’s nails straight across. Oval-shaped cuts may lead to ingrown nails. However, to ensure that the baby doesn’t hurt him/herself, you may use an emery board in order to softly file and soften the nails.
  • Your baby’s skin hygiene is important. Especially, if you have a summer baby, it will be suitable to daily wash your baby. However, alternately use clear water and shampoo on a daily basis to wash your baby. When choosing the shampoo, prefer those with neutral ph values containing no chemicals and cosmetic products.
  • Your baby does not require a special mouth cleaning as the salivary glands have a cleansing feature. However, in case of the formation of any moniliasis, you may clean your baby’s mouth using a white cheesecloth and carbonated water prepared by you.
  • When cleaning the bottom of your baby, for girls, you may use alcohol-free wet wipes or pieces of cotton dipped in water. Cleaning must be performed from the front to the back. For boys, do not pull the foreskin back. Otherwise, the skin might crack, suppurate or catch an infection.
  • Prefer clothes made of cotton for your baby. Upon purchase, wash the garment with hot water and iron it.
  • Generally, the umbilical cord stump falls of within about 10 days after birth. Do not bring into contact with water before the umbilical cord stump falls off. When washing your baby, care to leave this area dry and do not fail to perform its medical dressing with an alcohol advised by your doctor in the morning and evening.
  • You may take your baby outside after birth. However, if the baby is too young, avoid crowded areas as he/she may catch an infection.
  • Asphyxia, cyanosis, fever in newborn babies indicate a state of emergency. In these cases, apply to a hospital immediately without losing any time.
